Cheat Day Fridays: Putting that Diet on Hold for the Weekend ft. Schubros Brewery in San Ramon

photo 2-15The clock struck 9am and I was already extremely thirsty.  Not for my second cup of coffee and for sure not for some H20.  The abundance of emails, crisis handling and your everyday office work stress was definitely getting to me this week and an ice cold glass of beer was calling out my name.  For some reason, time stood still, but after 9 extremely long hours, it was 5pm and we were free.  Luckily, we only needed to travel right across the street to Schubros Brewery in San Ramon to get our alcoholic fix.  Now,  I’m pretty upset that I JUST found out about this beer goldmine that had been around since 2012.  The coworkers and I wandered on over, ready to try whatever this local brewery had to offer.  The place is a bit tiny, but it’s only a place to showcase their beer at certain times in the day.  They mainly focus on wholesale/distribution in the bay area.  We each ordered our own flight, where you can pick four out of the 9 beers they have on tap.  Because I prefer light beers, I ordered a tasting of their Nico Wheat&Rye, only 4.5% alcohol.  After that, I just continued down their list: Las Trampas Pale Ale(5.3%), SB-X1 Amber (5.7%) and finally their darkest beer, Alcosta (9.3%).  Their wheat beer was extremely refreshing and went down smooth as can be.  Their Las Trampas has to be my favorite out of the four, smooth as the wheat but with that extra kick unlike any pale ale I’ve had.  Perhaps I do not remember how their Amber tastes because I drank the first two too fast, but I am sure it was delicious.  Their Alcosta, which has many raves on Yelp, definitely tasted dark.  Schubros sticks true to their core values and uses all natural ingredients in their beer.  The Alcosta is their chocolate, orange imperial stout.

photo 3-20Blake, our awesome bartender (whose main role is to handle their finances) explained that unlike many beers out there, they don’t just use an extract or “syrup” to get that delicious flavor.  Actual cocoa and citrus was put into the Alcosta and I could definitely appreciate the beautiful marriage between the two ingredients.  Going to be honest here, I am not a beer connoisseur as you can tell.  I just know this brewery definitely knows what they are doing.  Wanting to grab a bottle of their IPA for my boyfriend, Blake says “Oh!  We’re bottling it right now, I’ll grab you a fresh one”.  With the ice cold bottle, he brought me a tasting as well.  My gosh, I usually do not like IPA’s but this one was unlike any other IPA I’ve had.  What I loved most was that it was called the “680 IPA”- referencing the freeway just down the street.  They offer a 64oz steel growler for just $35 of your beer of choice and for every refill it is just $10 ($15  for select beers).  I was really close to purchasing one for the office- you know- for those fifteen minute breaks.  For only $6 for a pint/flight, support your local brewery and get some good quality beer in return!
